If you'd like to book me for a talk, please consider the following...
You will need to provide 4 things:
1) A parking space close to the entrance- I will be bringing and carrying heavy boxes. I will
arrive at the venue about 20-30 minutes before the time you wish the talk to begin. Please
ensure access is available.
2) A changing room: in most venues the disabled loo is perfect. If there isn't
one, I'll need some other proper room with lighting, heating, a seat and preferably a
lockable door - and access to a loo and sink.
The shared ladies loos is NOT suitable, because it is not private and I will be changing down to my underwear!
3) A table at the front for my props. I'll need space in front of the table in which to perform.
4) A glass of water- it's thirsty work!
Other things to think about:
For singing performances, I will bring my own sound system, which has its own power source. In the unlikely event of this failing, I will need to plug in to a normal electrical socket.
I do not need the use of a projector or screen of any type for any of my talks.
Please arrange the seating however you prefer. I don't mind whether your group is sitting in a circle, in rows or around tables, or whether I use the stage or not, if your venue has one.
HEARING IMPAIRMENTS & MICROPHONES: I have excellent vocal projection and am easily heard.
If audience members have additional needs due to a severe hearing impairment, please
make this clear at the time of booking. For Marie Lloyd, Edith Cavell, 7 Ages & 1940s I am
happy to wear any necessary clip-on microphones or clip-on induction loop equipment, but
a handheld microphone will inhibit the performance.
Microphones of any type are extremely restrictive for the Queen Elizabeth talk because I need to use my hands for getting dressed as part of the talk and demonstration.
VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS: If the venue size & format permits, I will move around within the audience
to enable close-up inspection of the costumes where appropriate.
Payment & Cancellations:
Please pay by cheque or cash at the time of the performance.
Fees are agreed at the time of booking and rates are clearly set out on this website.
Due to a few recent problems, I regret to stipulate that late payments will incur an additional fee.
In the unlikely event that I cancel your booking within 24 hours of the performance I will offer a compensatory rate for an alternative date.
If the booker cancels the booking within 24 hours of the performance, please note the booker will be still be charged for the price of the talk, but travel costs will be waived.
Cancellations by either party giving a reasonable notice period can be negotiated individually.
And finally... apparently, on her latest tour, Madonna asked her bookers to provide:
"20 international phone lines in the room as well as special white and pink roses that must have the stems cut to six inches" and "a personal chef, acupuncturist and an on-site dry-cleaner."
Me? I'm just grateful for the work.
